Me-made from Head to Toe!

English: Grey Textblocks
Deutsch: Grüner Text

It's been a while since I last participated in a Me-Made-Mittwoch (Mittwoch is German for Wednesday), but I think this outfit is worthy for a return.

Hat, Blouse, Pants and yes, Shoes are all made by me.

Let's start at the top: The hat is actually a children's hat from BurdaStyle 07/2010. I added only a little bit of width, since I have a pretty small head. I couldn't decide on a band, so I just might keep changing it, according to the outfit of the day... Today, it will have to be more of a rain hat though...

The blouse is the first thing I have made from my drape drape 3 book and is called two-piece v-neck blouse. I adore it. It was a bit fussy to make, especially transferring all the pleats from the pattern to the fabric. Probably even more so because I was using this super-light-weight cotton. But everything was oh-so-worth it! This blouse is just lovely to wear and will be a new favorite for me.

I liebe sie.

The pants caused some discussions over at BurdaStyle. The pattern is from 05/2013 and you can download it HERE.

They made it in a pink-flowery version and it really looks like pajama pants - which might have been intended, since that was supposed to become the fashion item of the season. However, I wondered whether I could get it to look a bit more edgy and cool, but still have the comfort and sewing-quickness of the pajamas...

I chose a real light viscose and added black satin bias at the pockets and around the hem. I think they look pretty cool, also with the top tucked in...

...adding the black bias tape before combining the two front pieces...

Because the fabric is so light, I decided to line them around the top (with the same fabric). I simply took the pattern pieces from the outer pants, minus the pull-through top, and down to about mid-thigh.

The red marks indicate the lining-pieces. The front piece has to be completed with the bit from the pocket (seen on the right in the picture)

This is what the lining looks like.

So schaut's aus...

Then put the pants inside the lining, right sides facing each other, and sew them together at the top. Afterwards, continue the instructions from the pattern.

Now I will give you a back shot... I think there is a great danger with pants without zippers to end up looking pretty horrible in the back. This one works ok, I think adding backpockets would be a really good idea though. Main thing: thanks to the lining, no underwear is showing through... :-)

They can actually look pretty cool with something tucked in:

...but I would wear them with something covering the back...

But back to the original MMM outfit! The shoes are also made by me, and you can read a lot about them in THIS POST.

So a whole outfit made by me. Yes, I am pretty proud. This was pre-planned which it isn't easy, because you never know for sure whether the pieces will actually work out together. Especially since it is so hard for me to sew basics... But I'm learning slowly...

Also ein ganzes me-made-Outfit.

Now I'm looking forward to checking out all the other Wednesday Outfits! Best to all of you,

Alles Liebe an euch alle,

Katja

  2. Wow, komplett selbstgemacht!

Mal sehen, was daraus wird.
